Our history

In 1965, Shrinivas Kharche established the Madras regional office of M/s. Master Sathe & Kothari, a leading Indian architecture firm. Known for his unique yet simplistic design approach, he led projects across various sectors, including institutional, industrial, commercial, and residential buildings.

In 1979, the office evolved into Kharche & Associates, dedicated to his vision. While honoring tradition, the firm continues to innovate in planning and construction. It operates through three main divisions—architecture, engineering, and administration—comprising skilled designers, engineers, and consultants in various fields.

Committed to individuality and teamwork, the firm prioritizes simplicity in design and construction, aiming for optimal solutions that benefit builders, users, and the environment.

In circa 1990, our founder, Shri Kharche, was honored with the Excellence in Architecture award by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Hon. Bhishma Narain Singh.

More than 60 years ago, a young Marathi, tired of village life, pursued architecture in the city.

Mr. Kharche enrolled at Sir JJ School of Architecture after schooling in Sevagram, Vardha. After three years, he moved to the UK, completing his studies at the AA School of Architecture in London. Graduating with honors, he worked for six years at Architects Co Partnership, a top colonial firm in England.

In 1960, he returned to India, collaborating with Charles Correa and Fred Taylor on notable projects in Bombay, Ahmedabad, and Calcutta, including Kovalam Beach Resort and Belapur squatter housing. In 1964, he joined Kothari & Associates in New Delhi as an Associate Architect, leading the design of Oberoi’s first international 5-star hotel and working on prestigious projects like AIIMS and the LIC building.

Chief Architect & Planner

Prashanth S. Kharche is the Chief Architect and Planner of Kharche & Associates, one of South India’s leading architectural firms. With a strong focus on modern design principles, he has spearheaded the creation of large-scale commercial, IT/ITES, hospitality, residential, and institutional projects across India.

His extensive experience includes designing and executing architectural and engineering projects for prestigious clients such as Godrej Properties Ltd., DLF Ltd., Brigade Group, TVS Emerald, Tata Consultancy Services, etc., among others.

Under his leadership, Kharche & Associates was honored with the “Excellence in Architecture” award by the Governor of Tamil Nadu in 2001.
